An Empire style gilded bronze clock, Paris by Faizan circa 1810-1820.
An Empire style gilded bronze clock, made in Paris by Faizan circa 1810-1820. Four feet in the shape of a hoof surmounted by palmettes support a square base.
The white enamel dial with Roman numerals is signed «Faizan à Paris». Decoration with a butterfly-winged cherub head and two garlands of vine leaves. On either side of the clock there are two lion mufle fountains.
The whole is topped by two distinct figures: a personification of love and a woman sitting dressed in antique clothes.
From the watchmaker Faizan (also Faizant, Faisan or Faisant), active from the late 18th century to the early 19th century, it is known that he worked in 1806 on rue Saint-Denis in Paris.
