Description

A marquetry depicting a view of Ottrott by Charles or Paul Spindler, dating from circa 1920–1930. In the foreground, a flock of geese led by the mother with her goslings wanders along a street lined with large Alsatian houses. The house on the left features a chimney topped by a stork’s nest. In the background, the silhouettes of the Rathsamhausen and Lutzelbourg castles are visible. The work is signed “Spindler” in the lower right corner. The unique perspective and high quality of the marquetry are characteristic of Charles Spindler’s work, even though the signature lacks the customary “C.” It may be a late work by Charles Spindler or an early piece by Paul Spindler.
