An oil painting on canvas signed at the bottom, on the right by Charles Husslein (1894-1971) painted in the 1920s.
Charles Husslein depicts a woman dressed in traditional Alsatian costume: the headdress with the large black bow, the white linen blouse and a black apron falling over a green skirt.
It’s a common icon in the Alsatian pictorial repertoire, Charles Husslein portrays an Alsatian woman who is reading. Seated on an Alsatian chair, which is recognisable with the divergent wooden legs, the woman reads the letter she holds between her fingers without looking away from the viewer.
