Boersch by Charles Spindler

A marquetry by Charles Spindler (1865-1938) depicting the Upper Gate “Obertor”, seen from inside the old town, located south of Boersch.
Three of the four gates of the Boersch ramparts, dating from the first half of the 14th century, remain: to the east the Lower Gate (Niedertor), to the south the Upper Gate (Obertor), now decorated with a representation of Saint-Médard on the outside of the old town, patron saint of the parish, and to the north the Back Gate (Aftertor).
The Presbytery Gate on the west side was demolished in 1758 due to its age. The ramparts, very well preserved, still encloses the town.
The marquetry is signed “C. Spindler” in the lower right corner.
