A polychrome carved wood statue, of Alsatian origin, representing a Madonna and Child. The Madonna is dressed in a large blue garment, covering a red habit, clearly closer to the body. Her head is slightly tilted to the left, towards the child Jesus. Her hair is brown, long, and has a few curls. Her face carries a serene expression on the spectator, encouraging prayer. She carries the young Jesus in her arms, holding him by his left thigh and left calf. The Child is naked, his hair is brown, short and curly. His head is turned towards the Madonna’s face, his left arm resting on her chest, while his right arm is clasped on his mother’s shoulder. His left leg is held by the Virgin, thus his right leg is suspended. Like the Madonna, his facial features are outlined in red and black. He is looking lovingly at his mother perhaps seeking her attention.
