Two faience tobacco jars, attributed to Brussels, with a polychrome grand feu decoration executed with a stencil, presenting Chinese, monkeys, as well as flowers and foliage. The lids are made of brass. One of the pots is written ‘TABAC DE PARIS’, with Chinese figures on either side, wearing yellow, blue and green costumes. Both are shown standing next to a palm tree, wearing an umbrella and a hat. The other pot is written ‘TABAC ROYAL’, and has animal figures on either side, representing monkeys with yellow and black fur. Both are depicted enjoying a piece of fruit while perched on the branch of a tree. On the upper and lower parts of both pots, there are friezes of blue and orange flowers and foliage. On each pot, two blue lions’ heads, whose facial features are highlighted in black, help to hold the pots when they are handled.
