Description
A painted chip box, also known as a “Spanschachtel”, made in Alsace or in the Upper Rhine. It is made of shavings of pine or fir trees, and mounted with rush, and is presenting a polychrome decoration made up of tulips and spirals. It is an object which dates back to the period known as “Biedermeier” in Germany, which in France corresponds to the times of the French Restoration.
