A military watercolour painted by Pierre Comba around 1914. It depicts French troops in an autumnal countryside landscape. These soldiers from the early days of the First World War, carrying walking sticks and wearing the madder-red trousers introduced in 1867, are marching along a path beside a field. One of the soldiers stands out from the composition, gazing into the distance at a village on the horizon.
