Description
A glazzed terra cotta lilac-blue statuette, based on the Lion of Belfort made between 1875 and 1880 by Auguste Bartholdi (1834-1904). The lion is lying down, slightly straightened on his front legs. It symbolises the resistance of Belfort against the Prussian army during the Franco-Prussian War.
Attributed to a workshop in Soufflenheim (Alsace) circa 1950.
