A gouache on paper showing “work at the silo” was signed in the right corner: Auguste Cammissar (1873-1962) in 1941.
This work by the Alsatian artist illustrates the hard work of two men pushing and pulling on rails carts loaded with grain. The work is accentuated by the presence of the horse, which is a draught horse, a symbol of labour. In this work, Auguste Cammissar insists on the notion of work by highlighting the grain in the half-light of the stormy sky of the Alsatian countryside.
