A knocker with its wrought iron plate. The hammer takes the form of a loop with bulging ends around a percussion weight. The yoke is openworked with a three-lobed palmette, while above it the pediment takes the form of a small plate. The rotation elements have a robust design as found on many pieces of the same period. The wrought iron plate, rolled and cut to size, rises and spreads out in a perfectly symmetrical order.\u00a0Placed on the front door of the property to “knock it down like a battering ram”, the knocker evokes a refinement and luxury that the owner claims. The turntable or the small circular plate above the knocker could also have been engraved with the host’s coat of arms, as can be seen on a knocker bearing the coat of arms of the Orl\u00e9ans family in the collection of the Mus\u00e9e Le Secq des Tournelles. The model of the large turntable was quite successful in comparison with several turntables preserved in Toulouse, Paris or Strasbourg (cf. Haug, La ferronnerie strasbourgeoise au dix-septi\u00e8me et au dix-huiti\u00e8me si\u00e8cle, published in 1933 by A et F KAHN, Paris et Strasbourg, Pl. XVIII).<\/p>\n
